In 1924, the Excelsior factory was founded by Italian immigrants living in New York City. The high quality instruments being produced became extremely popular amongst the top American accordion players, and were increasingly played on the jazz circuit.

After the Second World War, many of the top professional players used Excelsior accordions. These included Charles Magnante, Pietro Deiro Jr. and the legendary musician Art Van Damme, who many consider to have been the greatest jazz accordionist of all time.

In 1948, Excelsior opened a new factory in the Italian town of Castelfidardo, in order to cope with the increasing demand for their products in the USA and Europe. Castelfidardo is famous for being the birthplace of the accordion over 150 years ago, and is still the centre of the accordion industry today.

In the early 1950s all Excelsior production was moved to the Italian town of Castelfidardo, and these accordions soon became renowned for their full, rich tone and excellent build quality. Top-end models such as the 940, Symphony Gold and the famous AC, as played by Art Van Damme, were exported throughout Europe and beyond.

Today, each Excelsior accordion is still handcrafted in Castelfidardo by highly skilled artisans, many of which have been working for the company for several generations.

Excelsiors are ideal accordions for players of any ability, with a wide range of models to suit all styles of music. Any Excelsior accordion can also be fitted with the excellent Midi Vox system, which features a full treble and bass midi alongside integral microphones. Optional grill mounted controls are also available.
